How to Get Back into a Routine

I’ve had a crazy few months. I’ve been doing a lot of traveling, I’ve been working a lot (both at my day job and blogging), and I feel like I really haven’t had the time to follow my routines since I came back from Arizona, which was around the end of August. I am a very routine oriented person and I just don’t feel like I’m fully complete or organized when I’m not following my morning and night routine.

Once you’ve fallen out of a routine, it can be hard to jump right back into it. I got used to waking up at 10 every day and then running out the door. Chaos became my morning routine and laziness became my night routine and that just isn’t the best way to live. But I feel like after about a week of reseting, I was finally able to get back into my routine and this is how!

Take a Day Off

I needed a day to just totally reset my life. Hence why I didn’t post on Friday. I took this day to clean my whole room, throw away and donate all of the stuff I didn’t need anymore and get done a lot of big tasks I have just put off. I got my shift covered at work, I skipped school, and I just had a ME day. It can be really hard to get back into a routine if the rest of your life is kind of crazy. Take one day to organize your life, you’ll thank yourself later. Make sure to go to bed early on your day off to get back into the swing of things.

Write it Down

Once you get back into the swing of things, you won’t need to look at you’re routine every day, it will just come naturally. But when you’re trying to build back the habit, it can be helpful to have it written down. I wrote down all of the things I would like to do in the morning and what time I want to do them on a sticky note, then stuck it on my wall next to my bed so the second my alarm went off, I was awake and ready to go!

Stick to it

It can be so easy to get lost in the fast pace of the world that we can brush things like routines and self-care to the side. We are so much more productive if we are able to stick to a routine. Don’t stray from it no matter how tempted you are!

Grab your Planner

Whenever I get “too busy”, or really just too lazy, I tend to stop using my planner. No matter what you do for work or school, I think everyone needs a planner. I am usually super detailed in my planner, writing everything down hour by hour. While I don’t think it’s necessary to be this detailed(although it can only help you), having all your daily tasks in one place where you can look at them will not only help you be more get into the habit of life, it will help you be more productive.

Getting your life and routine back on track can seem like a lot of work, but trust me, it will be worth it in the end. Having a routine will allow you to work smarter, not harder and I believe that is the key to success. If you have any tips at all on getting back on track, please leave them in the comments below to help myself and anyone else reading this!

Love, K.

  1. This is great! I’m a stay at home mom and a blogger. I blog everyday and I agree sometimes you need a break! I took this past Friday, Saturday and Sunday to take a break, spend time with my family, organize everything and now I feel better than ever. Sometimes all it takes is one day…or a couple! Great tips 🙂
